The PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF DEPRESSION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

The academic performance and the relationship with the depression of the students has aroused the interest of psychology in this subject, the objective of this study is to investigate and characterize the psychological profile of the depression and anxiety factor of the students, this in terms of determining how it influences academic performance, the type of research considered was qualitative, the bibliographic review of 34 academic articles was chosen through databases such as: scopus, google academic, Springer, among others. The results obtained indicated that the predominant characteristics of depression among students is caused by a series of circumstances, for example, academic demands, coping with a new environment, and the pressure to create an accepted social life. In addition, socioeconomic factors also have a direct influence, especially among students belonging to the lowest socioeconomic classes. It is concluded that the results obtained indicated that the predominant characteristics are: anxiety, suicide, trauma, alcohol; stress with low presence, and depression with high presence.
