Abstract

Introduction: Dieulafoy's injury is a rare but life-threatening cause of digestive bleeding, caused by erosion of
an abnormally caliber artery from the submucosal layer and should be included, as one of the possible causes
of dark digestive bleeding.

Objective: Review the best published medical evidence on the management of Dieulafoy lesions.

Material and methods A systematic and critical review of the scientific literature on the management of Dieulafoy
lesions was carried out, the search was carried out in Pubmed's Medline database using the keywords:
"Dieulafoy's lesion", "gastrointestinal bleeding", "endoscopy" and treatment".

Results: Endoscopy is the initial method of diagnosis; and endoscopic treatment with mechanical methods is
the therapy of choice.

Conclusions: Dieulafoy lesions are a rare but life-threatening cause of gastrointestinal bleeding, identification
and correct management is associated with better results.
