Abstract

Pain is the main symptom in which patients go to the emergency service of our hospital, representing up to 80% of medical visits and 10% refer to having acute pain.

Objective: Assess whether the use of morphine as a first therapeutic choice is appropriate to decrease the intensity of acute pain in patients who go to the emergency department.

Methodology: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted in patients treated during 2018 in the Emergency Service of General Ambato Hospital, in which morphine was used as the first choice for acute pain treatment with EVA pain scale 7 to 10 Points.

Result: During the period 2018 in the Emergency Service of the HospitalIes Ambato was used as the first choice for the treatment of acute pain pain pain type morphine in 370 patients,with great decrease in intensity in a short time of administration.

Conclusions: The use of morphine as the first line of treatment for acute pain should be considered for its rapid action and decreased symptomatology in patients who come to the emergency service with EVA >7/10.
