Abstract

Introduction: The dental Fluorosis is a serious disease thatinvolves also an aesthetic problem, characterized by anabnormality of the teeth, which is the first sign that theperson has been exposed to elevated levels of fluoride, inthe Ecuador its prevalence is largest in the Andean region.

Objective: Perform a systematic and critical review of theliterature on the dental Fluorosis.

Material and methods: wasa systematic and critical review of the literature, using searchengines of indexed articles in Scopus, Scielo, Latindexconcerning Fluorosis Dental.

Results: Systematic review ofthe literature allowed to analyze 13articles published inindexed journals on the topic Fluorosis Dental,demonstrating that it is an irreversible condition caused byexcessive ingestion of fluoride present in the medium room, food, toothpaste, water, you rinse, which affects not onlythe aesthetics but primarily training and normal maturationof the structures of the enamel in temporary and permanentdentition at included age groups between 1 -18. Documentation was analyzed and showed that they hadbetween the determinants of health for this pathology morerelevant biological, social, environmental and health care byestablishing the common pattern of pathology was thesupply of water and hence the possibility of prevention.Being the main source of fluoride water and its fluoridation,for several years, was established in strategy, taken byseveral countries as a means of prevention of dental caries,today on the other hand is forbidden, considering that theconsumption of food and bottled drinks additive effects oftoothpastes and fluoride supplements, are sufficient and arewithin the established limit of contribution to the Agency.

Conclusions: The dental Fluorosis may be avoidable byregulating the fluoridation of water consumption in theAndean communities.
